On Saturday, my best friend Andrea was married to Matt Sutton. When Andrea left the church to go on her honeymoon, she was also leaving North Carolina for good - she's heading to the dessert state of Arizona. It's hard for me to believe that Andrea won't be coming back...it was really bittersweet as she drove away. I'm trying to look at this time as an opportunity for growth. God has put so many awesome women in my life through my church family and I probably haven't invested in getting to know them as well as I could have because I've always had Andrea to talk to. I'm looking forward to growing closer to the women at my church and making deeper friendships. However, I'm also looking forward to the challenge of maintaining my friendship with Andrea even though we'll be miles apart.
So my Saturday was full of wedded bliss and then on Sunday I was at the opposite end of the spectrum as I attended a funeral for a man whom I looked up to from my home church, Piney Grove, Mr. Bobby Perry. Mr. Bobby was a deacon for many years at Piney Grove and he's done many a children's sermon as well. Mr. Bobby has always been an individual who stood out to me because he truly lived the christian life - it wasn't just about a moral life for him, it was a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ. I was encouraged at his funeral to listen to different pastors as they reflected on Mr. Bobby's life - I think that they captured him perfectly as they described a man who served his community, church and above all else desired to make Christ known.
A final update for my week...my 5th anniversary is coming up this Friday. I can't believe that 5 years have gone by so quickly. Steven is taking me to a bed and breakfast in New Bern on Friday and Saturday nights - he's so sweet! I can't wait to just relax and enjoy time with my hubby. I'm sure we'll enjoy walking around downtown New Bern, visiting the local shops, and eating out (our favorite part of the weekend)! The food at the Bed and Breakfast is always great as well...you should check it out sometime, it's called the Aerie Inn.
