Our First Hunting Experience
We had a busy day today. We spent most of the day back home in Williamston attending Easter Egg hunts at our home churches. These were Berkley and Meredith's first Easter egg hunts and we were all (Steven, grandparents, and myself) excited to see how they liked it. Our first hunt of the day was at Piney Grove and it started with a mini-devotional time for the kids to highlight what Easter is really all about. I loved that the youth pastor took time out to bring the gospel into focus on a day when it's so easy to lose sight of what Easter is all about. He presented 12 snap eggs in a carton and inside each egg was something representative of Easter. For example, a cross made of 3 nails representing Christ's death on the cross and the nails that held him there. The pastor at our second hunt at Reddicks Grove used the same tool and it was great! I know it was organized chaos at both events to have lots of children running around while you're trying to present something as important as the gospel, but even if the children didn't get it, it was what I needed as a parent... to stop, quiet my heart and focus on Christ.

I know what you're thinking...what is going on with that Easter bunny? Well, this is the "Wilford bunny," a dear man at Piney Grove has dressed up as the Easter bunny at this annual event since back when I was a pre-teen, if not before. He's such a loving, servant-hearted man who loves the body and loves our children and it was such a gift that my kids got to be a part of this memory. It brings back lots of sweet memories when my sister, Meredith, and I were part of planning the Easter egg hunt for kids when we were teenagers. Ah, good times! And by the way, he has a beard because it's "Easter Drama season" as I call it. The annual outdoor drama that my home church has presented for the past 32 years, "The Message of Easter" is currently being presented and all the men in the church who are in the drama grow beards because that's what the men back in Jesus' day had. And this just brings back more sweet memories of my dad growing out his beard when I was a little girl and how my sister and I couldn't wait for the end of the drama so we could help him shave it off. If you've never seen "The Message of Easter", I highly recommend making the time to go. You can find more information about it at www.messageofeaster.org.

As you see, Meredith and Berkley enjoyed finding their eggs and the treasures inside. They were way more interested in opening the eggs rather than finding them.
Hmmm, where to start, the bubble gum or the caramel chew? Don't worry, he didn't get either one. They both got a little Laffy Taffy though.
As much as I'd like to say that this was how many eggs Meredith found, I can't, she was just helping some older little girls empty their eggs.
