We survived the first 6 weeks! I remember the first week of having the babies home feeling desperate and kind of hopeless that I would ever survive the lack of sleep and constant demands of mothering. I sent out emails to everyone I knew who had twins asking for advice and I think that everyone of them said the same thing - something like, it's going to be hard, you just have to make it through the first 6 weeks and you'll be okay. At that point, 6 weeks seemed like an eternity. But as of Tuesday, we made it! I have seen so much improvement in my little ones' schedules. They're not sleeping through the night yet, but they're making progress. I've found that God is faithful in renewing my strength every morning, in providing me with the needed patience that it takes to constantly serve these little needy ones and in providing wonderful people to help care for me and my family. I have also seen that my biggest obstacle in the beginning was fear. I've been so fearful of the unknowns; fearful of bringing them home, of having them by myself for a few hours. of figuring out how to feed them if they both wake up at the same time, fearful of having to do night feedings thus losing more sleep and fearful of Steven's return to work. What have I learned? That all I can do is to try and God has proven that he will adequately equip me with what I need; whether that means putting the babies in the bouncy seats to give them their bottles at the same time or having to ask for help for the millionth time.

Let's see...what has changed since I last blogged? Meredith is now out of premie clothes and both babies are wearing size one diapers. Berkley has discovered the wonders of the bouncy seat - it seems that nothing satisfies him quite as well. Berkley fights sleep; he wakes himself up during the day and when he's on the verge of sleep he starts screaming - I think we're in for it when he gets older. Meredith on the other hand is very content in her bassinet. They are both much more alert. They are having much more wake time throughout the day. Their eye contact is much more direct and they've even done some cooing. I'm sure they will continue to change rapidly with everyday.

I will be returning to work on Monday for half days; 12:15-5. I don't know how I'm going to manage nursing them in the morning plus getting myself ready for work. Just today I didn't even get into the shower until 11:35. I know it's going to be difficult to return, but I keep telling myself that at least it's only for half days. Pray for me during this time of transition; that I will get enough rest to be effecient on the job and that I would be able to focus on meeting the needs of my family and job...I must work as unto the Lord!

Here are a couple of pictures of the babies at 6 weeks. Sorry I couldn't get a decent shot of Berkley without that paci.

Hi Candi, I wanted to share a website with you. I bought Carter some pacis from them and he loves them. We started him out the the same thing that Berkley has in his picture and he couldn't keep it in his mouth, someone referred this website to me and Carter loves his new ones. They are the same as the soothie, just different. You should check them out. There are some especially for smaller babies.
