Our family had the honor and blessing of being cast members in Piney Grove's annual presentation of The Message of Easter this year. I was in "the drama" from the time I could walk until I graduated high school and this was my first year back since then. It was such a precious experience to share with my mother, my children and husband, and the body of Christ at Piney Grove. It's such a blessing to join in our circle of prayer each night and pray for one another, for the gospel to be proclaimed through our presentation, and for the love of Christ to be experienced by those in attendance. Words can't do justice how wonderful it was to be a part of this. My prayer is that being in the drama will be a vital part of building a foundation for my children to one day completely understand the gospel. I know that they certainly learned that Jesus is kind and loving through their experience just this year. My kids would run to Jesus each night and I wish you could have seen how their eyes shone with excitement. I hope they are learning that Christ/God is love through this experience and that there is nothing to be ashamed of in running to him. It was all just such a blessing. Of course, part of it was bitter sweet as well. I wish so badly that my dad could have been in it with us. I know that he would have been so incredibly proud to have his grandchildren with him and he would have been so proud of how well they did. I feel like the whole body of Christ at Piney Grove enjoyed my kids presence so much, that they were thinking the same thing as I was, which was how great it was for us to be home and how wonderful it is that we are able to share this experience with my mom. One really cool thing is that Steven got to wear my dad's costume. I cried when I first saw him in it and I have to admit, my mind did play tricks on me a couple of times and I imagined my dad was there.
Some fun stories from the drama: Meredith began to think that Jesus should always talk to her whenever he walked by and she'd get offended if he didn't and ask, "why Jesus didn't talk to me?" One night running from one scene to the next, Meredith started singing "Go Diego, Go!" One day the actor who plays John the Baptist crossed the road as we were going the opposite direction; he wasn't in costume and yet Berkley said, "where is John the Baptist going?" My kids listened well at our "sermon on the Mount" scene. They would ask questions about words that John the Baptist and Jesus were speaking. They watched Jesus as he prayed to God. I really pray that seeing all of these things will just further the foundation of christian love and understanding that Steven and I are trying to lay.
